In May, invited by the American congress GEST specialized in the field of embolization in Interventional Radiology, I had the opportunity to give a talk about “collaboration with urologists in the embolization of prostatic arteries”.
What could be concluded at that congress is that prostate embolization is a safe and effective technique in patients with moderate-severe lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia. In the USA as well as in Europe and Asia, more and more centres are carrying it out as part of the usual clinical practice, and it is hoped that soon the European and American guidelines on Urology will include it as a minimal technique in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Prostate embolization is an alternative for those patients who do not want prostate surgery or pharmacological treatment to treat their prostate problems.
