EUROPEAN CONGRESS OF CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY
At the last European Congress of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, we were invited to explain our experience and results in PROSTATIC EMBOLIZATION, together with the best specialists in the world in this field: Dr. Bilhim, Dr. Carnevale, Dr. Pisco, Dr. Nigel Hackin, Dr. Sapoval, Dr. Golzariam…
What was again demonstrated is that prostate embolization is a safe and effective technique in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). This procedure has a very low rate of major complications (<1%) and can be performed on an outpatient basis (the same afternoon of the procedure the patient can go home without having to admit). We know that 10% of patients may not have improvement after the procedure, but in that cases, embolization may be repeated or surgical treatment (TURP or open surgery) may be performed.

We were able to appreciate that prostate embolization is creating much expectation in medical society and in patients suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia, as there are more and more studies that support the use of prostate embolization versus classical urological surgery (TURP and open surgery) for its lower profile of complications, and its immediate incorporation into the working and social life of the patient.
