WHAT IS BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects 50% of males aged >60 years. The presence of BPH is associated with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). LUTS secondary to BPH include nocturia, urinary frequency and urgency, urinary incontinence, difficulty with urinating, weak urinary stream, post-void dribbling and a sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. LUTS are the most common urological problems in men; they are the primary reason for visits to the urologist and have a major impact on patients’ quality of life (QoL).
